Autodesk announced and released a new Cloud Based service today called Autodesk BIM 360. Autodesk BIM 360 includes a set of services that provide cloud based access to BIM project information throughout the project’s lifecycle. Autodesk BIM 360 will work with several of Autodesk’s BIM solutions including Autodesk Building Design Suite and Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite.
"Cloud-connected workflows are giving our customers worldwide a better way to work with colleagues across their organizations and with business partners, clients and stakeholders,” said Amar Hanspal, Autodesk senior vice president, information modeling products.
Autodesk BIM 360 is an expansion of Autodesk 360 and works with Autodesk PLM 360. Autodesk BIM 360 is available now in English (support for other languages is coming.) Some of its services may only be available to Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013 subscription customers. Visit www.autodesk.com/bim360 for more details and contact your local reseller.
So what is Autodesk BIM 360? It is an online (cloud based) collaboration tool from Autodesk that attempts to allow team members to share model information. Its goal is to allow Autodesk Building Design Suite and Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite customers to work together.
Autodesk wants to bring the BIM process to the cloud, along with many other of their services. This is their next step in that process. Autodesk’s recent acquisition of Vela Systems goes well with Autodesk BIM 360 and will be able to work within that system. The potential to bring project design data to many users, companies, engineers, designers, contractors, construction workers, and municipalities is there.
I plan on getting more information soon and will expand upon the subject as more information becomes available.
